In our YA Classes Teacher Highlights, we feature one of our amazing instructors and interview them so our members and readers can get to know them. This teacher highlight is with Courtney Fox.
Courtney is an Arizona native and cherishes the opportunity to teach and inspire people in her hometown. She is a 500-hour+ certified yoga instructor through Modern Yoga and has trained with some of the most experienced yoga professionals in the world.
Her purpose is to introduce students to yoga in a playful, feel-good way so they can not only establish a yoga practice on the mat, but take their practice off their mat and into their daily lives to create a vibrant and healthy lifestyle.
Courtney Fox shares her yoga journey:
“My first yoga class was at ASU when I was in college. I immediately fell in love with the way it made me feel. I grew up as a competitive gymnast and I appreciated that yoga wasn’t about being perfect. I noticed right away how yoga calmed my nervous system, was kind to my joints and helped me clear my mind. Little did I know at the time, it would change my life forever! I am so grateful.”
Courtney enjoys bringing the community together through teaching in the greater Phoenix, Arizona area at Diamondbacks Stadium, CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa, the Fashion Square rooftop, festivals, and lululemon, and hosting transformative yoga and meditation retreats locally and abroad.
Connect to your intuition to live authentically and be mindful of your self-talk.
– Courtney Fox
As a former state champion competitive gymnast, Courtney understands the balance between effort and surrender. Courtney quit her corporate job in 2015 to pursue wellness full time and has since blended her business experience with her passion for movement.

Get to Know Your YA Classes Teacher: Courtney Fox
We sat down with this inspiring teacher for a Q+A session so YA Classes members and YouAligned readers can learn more about her.
YA: What’s your favorite self-care practice you can’t live without?
Courtney: I have a few non-negotiable daily practices. Self-care has become such an important part of grounding and taking time for me!
Here are a few of my top rituals: Gua Sha, red light therapy, practicing yoga, drawing an intention card, breathing meditation, a dip in the hot tub and lavender aromatherapy. Beyond the daily, I CHERISH getting a massage to release tension and move energy.
YA: What’s your go-to song or music genre when you teach (or practice)?
Courtney: Music is a huge part of my life and yoga experience! Typically, I play alternative dance or house music, such as Rufus du Sol. My favorite flow song in the entire world is Aurelia by Nora En Pure! It’s a vibe.
YA: What’s your favorite motivational quote?
Courtney: “What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” – Erin Hanson
YA: What’s your favorite yoga pose? Least favorite?
Courtney: My favorite yoga pose, hands down, is Anjaneyasana. I recommend my clients do it every day to counter all the sitting we do. It feels amazing and lengthens the psoas which has many benefits including helping low back pain.
The Symbolic Meaning and Benefits of Anjaneyasana (Low Lunge Pose)
My least favorite is probably backbends, although I practice them regularly because one day they will become my favorite… right!? ?

YA: Where’s your favorite place in the world you’ve ever been to, and why?
Courtney: My favorite place I’ve traveled to was Costa Rica when I hosted my very first yoga and meditation retreat.
It was such a magical experience and I can’t imagine a better setting than the lush rainforest and ocean combo! I learned to surf, we had amazing farm to table food, an incredible group of people open for transformation, and I lit up teaching in the yoga shalas surrounded by nature. Take me back!
YA: What’s your most embarrassing moment, either teaching or in life?
Courtney: Definitely the time I was at a wedding and thought my dress was tight enough to do a handstand on the dance floor . . . and well, you can guess the rest.

YA: What’s your #1 piece of advice for maintaining an empowered mindset?
Courtney: Connect to your intuition to live authentically. Do things that challenge you daily. Care for and love yourself first, so you can enjoy giving to others. Surround yourself with people that motivate, encourage and uplift you.
Lastly, be mindful of your self-talk. Build yourself up through positive affirmations and say them until you believe them to be true!
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Courtney: I may or may not be the Cold Stone commercial mom.
YA: Aside from your own, what’s your favorite class or teacher on YA Classes?
Courtney: I highly recommend Ashton’s Melt class . . . oh my gosh, it felt so good and truly helped me melt away any physical tension or mental stress I didn’t even realize was there! I also love Bentley’s Funky Flow class! She has the most unique and intelligent sequencing.
