Astrology, just like life, seems to vacillate through times of intensity and calm. As we step into our second eclipse season of 2023, we are invited into inner and outer transformation.

What is an Eclipse?

Eclipses are an alignment of the Sun, Moon, Earth, and lunar nodes, which are not tangible objects but mathematical points in space where the Moon’s orbit intersects the Sun’s apparent path.

We are familiar with the dance of the Sun and Moon that brings us a new and full Moon every 28 days. Eclipses, however, occur when the Moon reaches its upper and lower thresholds of its tilted elliptical orbit. These boundaries are the lunar nodes. When the Moon reaches these thresholds, it forms a perfect alignment with the Sun and Earth. It is here that a new Moon becomes a solar eclipse and a full Moon a lunar eclipse.

The dynamic with the lunar nodes is what makes eclipses so special. According to astrology, the lunar nodes comprise the north node and the south node and represent destiny, purpose, and evolution. This sense of purpose that the lunar nodes hold seems to be a gateway to travel through as the Sun—which represents our spirit, inspiration, and life force—comes into alignment with the Moon—which belies our intuitive nature, inner truths, needs, and emotions—and the planet upon which we bring our destiny into reality. Consider it a portal through which our call of destiny, alignment, and evolution can reach us.

When is Eclipse Season 2023?

A solar eclipse in the new Moon in Libra on October 14, 2023, denotes the beginning of eclipse season 2023. This is an annular (or “ring of fire”) eclipse. The season draws to a conclusion with a partial lunar eclipse on the full Moon in Taurus, which takes place on October 28 and 29, 2023.

What Eclipse Season Means for You

As we look back on our life’s journey, there are often moments when our direction took a clear shift. Perhaps something ended or began. We meet the beginning and end of chapters in our lives so frequently that we could say we have experienced multiple lifetimes in one, whether these changes were initiated through blissful moments or those that brought us to our knees. Eclipses are often at the heart of these changes.

What is meant for us is as clear as what is not intended for us. Eclipses are understood to be when the voice of guidance—whether you consider that to be soul, higher self, intuition, the divine, or destiny—seems to get louder, clearer, and felt more deeply in our bodies than ever before. They are when that voice meets us from within, speaking through our emotions and ideas and knowing, aligns with changes that are thrust upon us and that we seem to have no say in.

Change seems to be the essence of eclipse season, as does some kind of larger purpose. They bring the kind of cracking open that, when we look back on it, seems to be the very doorway into everything good and real in life for years to come. We may not always perceive or understand the purpose within the change at the moment, there is an element of surrender being asked of us throughout this season, a trust that something is being planted in that very moment, regardless of whether we know what that will become or not.

Your Eclipse Season Invitation

There is an undeniable force etched into the fabric of eclipse season. Eclipses are the light that pours through the cracks of change and the divinity within transformation. Sitting at the core of this season are strength, presence, purposefulness, alignment, and  transformation that seem to bring us closer to who we are and closer to life itself, whether that direction is felt in the moment or reveals itself at a later moment.

If we know anything about transformation, it is that we cannot control it. We cannot orchestrate it, just as we cannot journey through it only with through our thoughts It is within transformation that we are often led to our edges where the only option from there is to unclench our hands, breathe out, allow, trust in ourselves and life, and remain receptive.

While we may say that change is difficult, we can also say that all we know is change. We know this terrain, for we have been journeying it for as long as we have been breathing. To go against change is to go against our nature.

This eclipse season, can you look back to moments in your life that seemed to be the doorway into your greatest transformation? Can you witness how you moved through these tides of change, what was born into your life in those moments, and where your trajectory shifted from then on? Can you speak your innermost dreams into the ethers and listen more deeply than ever to your voice of guidance? And can you hold as a priority the intentions of the season—becoming aligned with more you, more love, more truth, more fulfillment, more purpose, more creation, more depth, more divinity, and more connection?
